The current Roto Smeets Group B.V. was created in 1993 through a merger with Koninklijke De Boer Boekhoven N.V. and VNU Grafische Industrie B.V. The company traces its origin back to 1870 when C. De Boer Jr. founded the company in Den Helder. In the years that followed, the company consisted of 63 companies and 4,300 employees at its peak. In the last 10 years, the company continuously adapted its scale to market conditions and in the most socially responsible way possible reduced its workforce to approximately 800 employees in 2017.
